West Ham United 2-0 Manchester United – Reaction
MANUEL PELLEGRINI naturally reflected positively after witnessing his West Ham United side ease to a comfortable 2-0 Premier League success over an out of sorts Manchester United side at the London Stadium.
Andriy Yarmolenko fired the Hammers ahead on the stroke of half-time before Aaron Cresswell sealed the deal with a stunning free-kick six minutes from time. However, the east Londoners will rarely have had a more undemanding encounter with the Old Trafford side.
“I’m very happy about all of today,” Pellegrini beamed.
“The way we played – I always talk with the players that we must have the mentality to play the same way we work during the week.
“It doesn’t matter if we play United or against every big team – we must trust that we are able to beat them.”
West Ham has only been beaten once in their last ten Premier League outings, leaving Pellegrini most pleased for the clubs supporters.
“I am happy also because the fans enjoyed the game,” the Chilean continued.
“We kept a clean sheet again. We were a very consistent team, we didn’t allow them to create chances and when we scored the first goal – a beautiful goal – we continued trying to score the second.
“We kept attacking and trying to recover the ball as high as we could.”
But it proved to be another difficult day for Pellegrini’s counterpart, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer: “Of course, when you lose a game you’re disappointed,” he bemoaned.
“It’s a game that can go both ways – as you’d expect away from home in the Premier League.
“We lost here last year – it’s always a difficult ground to go to. We hoped to do better than we did – we hoped for better. But the key moments, they grasped and we didn’t.”
